SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA, June 15, 2005 --
BitMover Inc., the developer of BitKeeper, the industry's only
peer-to-peer collaborative development tool, today announced that Maxtor
Corporation, a worldwide leader in hard disk drives and consumer storage
solutions, has adopted BitKeeper as its next generation configuration
management system.
Maxtor performed an extensive evaluation of BitKeeper and plans to deploy
the software as a key element of its collaborative multi-site engineering
strategy. BitKeeper's unique peer-to-peer architecture will allow
Maxtor to better leverage its distributed engineering resources and
improve time to market. This architecture will support uninterrupted
parallel development among Maxtor's distributed development teams.
"The growing complexity of disk drive software and the specialization
of disk drives for the consumer electronics, server, and desktop
markets call for the use of a robust software configuration management
system," said Dan Cautis, executive director of Firmware Engineering at
Maxtor. "BitKeeper has advanced functionality to allow Maxtor to track
software features for its unique markets and to better support customer
configurations."
"BitKeeper has many well-designed features that we expect will allow our
development teams to be more agile and increase our flexibility in meeting
our customers' needs," said Eric Mudama, engineering manager at Maxtor.
One of the key benefits of using BitKeeper is the level of support
that is included. BitMover's support organization provides support
for both tool-related questions and for enhanced development process
and workflow. This customer interaction directly influences BitMover's
roadmap, ensuring that new product enhancements target the most current
challenges of today's dynamic engineering environment.
"We are incredibly pleased that Maxtor Corporation has chosen BitKeeper,
they are a technology leader in the storage arena and we plan to work
closely with them as we continue to expand BitKeeper's functionality,"
said BitMover CEO Larry McVoy.
